The inter-Korean men's handball team competed in the world championship in Germany. They did their best against Germany but fell short of beating the world's number one. Take a look.

The unified Korean team took on Germany in the opening match of the International Handball Federation's World Men's Handball Championship under way in Berlin. The Korean players did their best but the world's top ranked team proved to be too much. The final score: 30 to 19.

[Soundbite] Jung Su-young(Team Captain) : "We didn't have sufficient time to train together. So we weren't able to fully tap into our potential on both ends of the court."

The 17-thousand seat stadium was filled with cheers and support for the home team. The 100-member joint inter-Korean cheering squad shouted chants and applauded the athletes with all their might.

[Soundbite] Jung Myung-yeol(Korean resident in Germany) : "We are one people. Win Korea, win Korea!"

The South and North Korean ambassadors stationed in Germany also sat together and watched the game and encouraged the joint team.

[Soundbite] Cho Young-shin(Coach) : "I'm proud of the players who weren't intimidated by the imposing German squad but did their best to the very end."

Team Korea will play its second preliminary match against world number four Russia on Saturday night Korea time.
