First suggested by quarantine authorities, a sign language campaign expressing gratitude for medical workers fighting the pandemic has been under way in Korea since earlier this month. Take a look at the continuing stream of support measures flooding social media

​Healthcare workers have been on the front line in the fight against COVID-19. The sign language campaign of holding up one's thumb began as a way to express gratitude. The gesture denotes respect and pride in the work they do.

[Soundbite] BoA(SINGER) : "I offer my sincere gratitude. I hope many people can join the challenge."

Starting with K-pop singer BoA, many celebrities have already taken part.

[Soundbite] U-KNOW YUNHO(SINGER) : "We were able to stay safe today thanks to you. I admire all those tolling on the medical field even at this moment."

Sports figures such as figure skater Kim Yuna and athletes from baseball to bobsleigh have also lent their support.

[Soundbite] CHOI JEONG(PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER) : "Thanks to the efforts of medical workers, pro baseball will begin its regular season. Thank you with all respect!"

[Soundbite] "All will be fine."

[Soundbite] "Thank you medical professionals."

[Soundbite] "Thank you doctors."

Ordinary citizens have also posted over 6,000 online messages to spur on doctors and nurses. 34 Korean singers have also sung and dedicated a song to the 37-hundred medics nationwide who continue to battle the infectious disease.

[Soundbite] PROF. JEONG JIN-WOOK(KEIMYUNG UNIV. DAEGU DONGSAN HOSPITAL) : "Receiving letters was a big encouragement during difficult times. Now I'm bewildered and empowered by this nationwide challenge."

Koreans are encouraging one another in a united spirit, waiting for the day to return to healthy normal life.
