President Moon Jae-in reiterated hisn will to communicate with U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on multiple fronts to further solidify Seoul-Washington alliance and leave no vacuum in the Korean Peninsula peace process.

[Soundbite] PRES. MOON JAE-IN : "The South Korean government is determined to remain unwavering in its push for the Korean Peninsula peace process."

He said, first of all, his government will closely discuss with the U.S. to make tangible progress in establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula and denuclearizing North Korea. With the new U.S. president elected, Moon also expressed determination to explore new opportunities to improve inter-Korean relations. He hoped that along with concrete alliance between South Korea and the U.S., the two Koreas themselves will play a more active, decisive role in addressing inter-Korean affairs. His remarks are seen as a pledge to proactively work with the North to settle the issues we can on our own.

[Soundbite] "I expect that an environment can be created to explore new opportunities and solutions for inter-Korean relations."

Moon also stressed close economic cooperation with the U.S. He hoped for stronger economic ties between the two allies, emphasizing the government's carbon neutrality goal and Green New Deal that are in fact, in line with Biden's policies.

[Soundbite] "I hope the pursuit of similar values and policies will serve as the foundation for opening up a new era together after the COVID-19 pandemic is over."

Moon vowed, after Biden takes over as president, to preserve and further expand the bilateral outcomes his government has achieved with the U.S. under the Trump administration. Analysts agree that the president stressed the government's plan to keep its policies unchanged.
