K-pop boy band BTS has been nominated for the Grammy, the most prestigious U.S. music award. Korean musicians of classical or traditional Korean music have been nominated before but a Grammy nod is the first for South Korean pop music.

The Recording Academy unveiled the nominees for the 63rd Grammy Awards. BTS is included in the best pop duo/group performance. This is a category installed in 2012 that recognizes achievements in “new vocal or instrumental duo/group or collaborative pop recordings.” Though it's not one of the four major Grammy honors, it is a significant feat, as no Asian singers have been nominated in this category. The band's latest single "Dynamite," an upbeat disco pop track released on August 21st, has already set numerous records including becoming the first K-pop song to top the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. BTS has won at the American Music Awards for 3 straight years and at the Billboard Music Awards for the 4th consecutive year. If they pick up a Grammy, this will complete a grand slam. The Grammys. Regarded as the most prestigious of all music awards in the U.S. The Recording Academy, an organization of musicians, producers, critics and other musical professionals, has been hosting the annual awards since 1959. Unlike the AMAs which is based on viewer votes and the BMAs, based on chart rankings, the Grammys is more focused on artists' musical performance. Therefore a nomination itself is viewed as a significant achievement. Grammy winners are determined by vote among the Recording Academy members. Results will be announced at the award ceremony on January 31.
