SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won has filed for a divorce settlement with his wife. The motion does not include property and finances, but expresses that if Chey's wife agrees to a divorce, he would be willing to discuss how to split the couple's assets worth an estimated four trillion won.

In December 2015, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won sent a letter to a media organization. He confessed that he had another woman and a child with her. He also said he wanted to divorce his wife, Roh Soh-yeong. More than two years after his confession, Chey filed for a divorce settlement with the Seoul Family Court. The motion only includes the divorce. It also says that if Chey's wife agrees to a divorce and asks for an asset split, he is willing to discuss how to split their assets, which are worth more than four trillion won. Most of Choi's 4.5 trillion won in assets are in the form of SK Group shares owned in the form of securities. However, given that Chey's wife previously refused to divorce him, the couple may fail to settle and end up in a lawsuit. Judicial experts appear to be split on the outcome. The lawsuit is likely to be dismissed, because the spouse who is responsible for the divorce has no right to file a suit. However, things can change, as it has been found recently that Chey's wife sent a letter to former President Park Geun-hye asking her not to grant amnesty to her husband, who was in prison at the time. The date of the first arbitration meeting has yet to be set. All eyes are on what Chey's wife will say at this time.
