Taean Lily Festival

A flower festival is well under way on the Taean Peninsula brimming with an array of fully blossomed summer flowers. Follow us to this colorful, fragrant festivity in our next report.

Lilies of various colors fill the festival site. The strong scent makes people stop. Here are some 3 million lilies of 200 different varieties galore on Taean Peninsula in Chungcheongnam-do Province.

[Soundbite] Seo Min-ji(Visitor) : "The fragrance, the breeze and the wide variety of flowers are all great. I'll make precious memories with my kids."

Lotus flowers also show off their elegance under the blazing sun. Their pastel hues and the petals' soft silhouette are enchanting to say the least. Families create summer memories in pictures.

[Soundbite] Kim Jong-guk(Visitor) : "Our family is here on vacation and the lotuses are wonderful. It's soothing to see the flowers and also gives me the heart to plant them."

At nearby Chollipo Arboretum, Korea's national flower, Mugunghwa or the Rose of Sharon, has fully bloomed. Some 300 species of the Rose of the Sharon are on display here including the Pompon which resembles a carnation. Another variety has layered floral leaves.

[Soundbite] Choi Su-jin(Public Relations Director, Chollipo Arboretum) : "Rare varieties of rose of sharons are gathered at one place in a beautifully harmonious way in terms of landscaping."

Other representative summer flowers suchas the hydrangea and water lilies have also bloomed, eagerly awaiting visitors from nationwide.
