A large shock was felt in the southeastern Yeongnam region of the nation at 8:33 p.m. on Monday. The four-point-five-magnitiude tremor originated from a region eleven kilometers southwest from Gyeongju City Hall. The quake is the strongest since a five-point-eight-magnitude earthquake jolted Gyeongju on September 12th, immediately following one that reached five-point-one on the Richter scale. More than 400 aftershocks have occurred in the area over the past week. The Korea Meteorological Administration said that the tremor was even felt as far as in the Seoul and neighboring capital area. The seismic intensity in Gyeongju is estimated at five, a degree which nearly all people feel and can break objects. People in other regions of the province just felt the tremble indoors with the intensity analyzed at four. The Ministry of Public Safety and Security said that 12 cases of damage have been reported, following the aftershock. The 119 emergency call service has received more than 14,000 reports on feeling the tremor. However, no immediate casualties have been reported so far. But there are rising concerns about additional damage, as facilities have been already severely damaged by last week's strong earthquake and strong aftershocks can continue.
