U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power will reportedly meet with Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and other high-ranking government officials on Monday to discuss sanctions against North Korea. On Sunday, Power visited the truce village of Panmunjom, a symbol of Korea's national division, where she took commemorative pictures with South Korean and U.S. servicemen in front of the military demarcation line as North Korean soldiers looked on. She then held a news conference at the U.S. embassy where she stressed a stern response to North Korea's provocations.

Ambassador Power vowed to use all the tools available to further isolate North Korea in addition to the U.N. Security Council, such as diplomatic pressure and the power of deterrence exerted by the U.S. forces stationed in Korea. She added that although the U.S. is situated far from the Korean Peninsula, it perceives North Korea's threat as seriously as the people of South Korea.

After hearing testimonies about human rights violations in the North at an educational facility for North Korean escapees, Power blasted Pyongyang for nurturing weapons instead of children.
