Today, we meet actor Ji Chang-wook, who was chosen as the South Korean actor most loved in China last year. He has taken his first go at big-screen success. Let's hear from the rising star about his future career plans.

Actor Ji Chang-wook was a rookie when he played the male lead in the KBS drama "Smile Again," which recorded a viewer rating of over 40 percent seven years ago. Ji has now returned to KBS as a new action movie star. He has appeared in a number of dramas and musicals. He has also emerged as a rising Korean star in China, as the 2014 drama "Healer" was a big success there.

[Soundbite] Ji Chang-wook(Actor) : "Foreign fans love my image in "Healer" as a man who protects and loves someone warmly."

Riding on his surging popularity, the South Korean actor has appeared in China's representative entertainment programs. A Chinese drama in which he played a leading role posted the highest viewer rating last year.

[Soundbite] Ji Chang-wook(Actor) : "We could not understand each other when we spoke our parts. It was fun to speak our lines by reading each other's mind."

He said that his drama had yet to air in China amid what appears to be Beijing's retaliatory measures against Seoul's decision to host the U.S. THAAD missile defense system.

[Soundbite] Ji Chang-wook(Actor) : "The broadcasting of my drama has not yet been scheduled. So we are just waiting."

Ji made his big screen debut this year. He starred in the action crime film "Fabricated City," which premiered in early February. In the movie, He played the male lead who is a top gamer in the virtual world but jobless in real life. The protagonist is framed as a murderer for no reason after receiving a phone call from a strange woman. The movie unfolds around the plot his gaming buddies come up with to save him. In the movie, Ji showed off his fabulous action acting skills he practiced through months-long intensive training.

[Soundbite] Ji Chang-wook(Actor) : "The subject is not light. But it unfolds in a cheerful and delightful manner. There are also lots to see."

He will embark on an Asian tour concert starting in Thailand this year. Expectations are running high for his bright career future.
